Busting the Myths: Is Renting a Car in Pakistan Hard or Expensive?

There are a lot of misconceptions about renting a car in Pakistan. Here are the most common myths — and the reality behind each one.

Myth 1: “Car rental in Pakistan is only for the wealthy”

Reality: Budget self-drive options are available on monthly packages from PKR 120,000. Monthly packages for Sedans with driver start from PKR 180,000 — comparable to or cheaper than ride-hailing for regular commuters.

See our monthly car rental cost guide for a full breakdown.

Myth 2: “The process is complicated and requires lots of paperwork”

Reality: Booking is as simple as a WhatsApp message. Share your requirements — vehicle type, start date, duration — and we confirm within minutes. For monthly packages, a basic agreement is signed, but there’s no complex bureaucracy.

Myth 3: “You can’t trust rental car drivers”

Reality: Reputable companies vet their drivers thoroughly. At Khalifah Motors, all drivers are background-checked, licensed, and trained. Many of our clients have worked with the same driver for years.

Myth 4: “Self-drive rental isn’t available in Pakistan”

Reality: Self-drive rental is available in Karachi. Eligible vehicles include Suzuki Alto, Wagon R, Toyota Vitz, and Honda BRV. Requirements: 21+ years old, valid driving license (1 year minimum), and a refundable security deposit.

See our Budget car rental page for self-drive options.

Myth 5: “Monthly rental is inflexible”

Reality: Monthly packages can be adjusted. If you need to upgrade your vehicle, extend your contract, or end early, most reputable companies will work with you. Early termination typically means the used months are billed at the standard monthly rate — no penalty.

Myth 6: “SUV rental is only for intercity trips”

Reality: Many Karachi families use SUVs for daily city use — school runs, shopping, family outings. The Toyota Fortuner is one of our most popular monthly rentals for exactly this reason.
